A few words of introduction
Following the article by Drs Condat and Cohen on "La prise en charge des enfants, adolescentes et adolescents transgenres en France : controverses récentes et enjeux éthiques "1 , we would like to respond to the severe and repeated criticism levelled at us. We would also like to point out that Prof. David Cohen is editor-in-chief of the journal2 Neuropsychiatrie de l'Enfance et de l'Adolescence. OPS (Observatoire la Petite Sirène 3 ) is an association set up to examine the increase in the number of teenagers identifying themselves as "trans", and the influence of social networks on this phenomenon. The risk of radicalization and mind control is not negligible when it comes to social networks, as David Cohen worries about in a video from 2021, when he talks about "an epidemic of young people who wanted to leave for the Iraqi-Syrian zone" or "radicalization by contagion "4.
What we're talking about is a sectarian-type phenomenon of control over the networks, fostered by transactivism (which doesn't represent all trans people) for which influencers are the megaphone. OPS is an association that brings together professionals working with children and teenagers, who are concerned about the increase in the number of teenagers, and specifically girls, who identify as trans. This population is not the same as it was 10 or 20 years ago. Some of PAHO's professionals are doctors, including endocrinologists, who have had experience in dealing with trans adults and young adults. We would therefore like to remind you that we are not talking about transgender people, but about a transactivist ideology that influences minors who are probably not "transgender" but "transidentified". We value this important distinction, which our colleagues don't seem to make, and invite them to think with us about this new population of trans-identified adolescents.
